Casco Indemnity Company was formed in 1985 by a consortium of seven New England property insurers, seeking to balance and expand their writings in the region.

At the end of its first full year of operation, Casco was represented by less than a dozen independent agents, employed six full time people and had total writings of $93,000 of personal automobile business.

In late 2010, Casco was acquired by Ohio Mutual Insurance Group (OMIG), based in Bucyrus, OH.

Casco actively writes personal auto and personal umbrella insurance in five states (ME, RI, CT, VT, NH) through a network of nearly 100 independent agents. As a member of Ohio Mutual Insurance Group, the company enjoys an "A" (Stable) rating from A.M. Best Co. The company currently has nearly 20 associates.

Ohio Mutual Insurance Group is not new to the New England insurance market, having offered commercial products in Rhode Island since 2007 and Connecticut since 2009 - the acquisition of Casco Indemnity is part of OMIG's strategy to continue its growth and product diversification in New England.

Ohio Mutual was founded in 1901 as a small insurance association in northwest Ohio, serving members of the agricultural community. Over the years it has grown in size and scope and in 2010 wrote more than $163 million in premium - offering commercial products in four states and personal lines and farm insurance throughout Ohio. Its products are marketed exclusively through a network of nearly 300 independent insurance agents.
