Since its formation in 1985, Casco Indemnity Company had been owned by a consortium of New England insurers through a holding company, N.E. Corporation. Near the end of 2010, the owners of the holding company (Hingham Group and Phenix Mutual Fire Insurance Company) sold it to Ohio Mutual Insurance Group, of Bucyrus, OH - a highly-rated property & casualty insurer which, prior to its acquisition of Casco, had offered commercial insurance in Rhode Island and Connecticut for several years.
